Check out my review: Killer Instinct
Synopsis: “A zippy, gripping psychological drama.” ~Kirkus Reviews

She’s not evil, but she has certain... urges.

Lane is a typical teenager. Loving family. Good grades. Afterschool job at the local animal hospital. Martial arts enthusiast. But her secret obsession is studying serial killers. She understands them, knows what makes them tick.

Why?

Because she might be one herself.

Lane channels her dark impulses by hunting criminals—delivering justice when the law fails. The vigilantism stops shy of murder. But with each visceral rush the line of self-control blurs.

And then a young preschool teacher goes missing. Only to return... in parts.

When Lane excitedly gets involved in the hunt for “the Decapitator,” the vicious serial murderer that has come to her hometown, she gets dangerously caught up in a web of lies about her birth dad and her own dark past. And once the Decapitator contacts Lane directly, Lane knows she is no longer invisible or safe. Now she needs to use her unique talents to find the true killer’s identity before she—or someone she loves—becomes the next victim...

Author Interview:

Hi Shannon! Thanks for taking the time to visit with me today! I'm excited to have a chance to talk to you about Killer Instinct, so how about we dive right in?

Sounds great!

First off, this is such unique story, how did you come up with the characters and the plot? And what was the hardest part in writing Killer Instinct?

I’m a big fan of shows like Hannibal, The Following, and Dexter. So when I was ready to write a new book, the serial killer theme was a natural fit. To be honest with you, there wasn’t a hard part to this. I sat down with this crazy urge to explore my own dark side, and Killer Instinct is what came out of me.

If you could sit down and have a meal with Lane, what would you like to say to her or talk about?

I wouldn’t have a meal with her, but I’d definitely go with her on one of her vigilante missions. Yes, that’s definitely what I want to do with Lane!

I'm assuming the research for this title would have been interesting and perhaps shocking? What was one, two or some info you stumbled upon that sticks out in your mind the most?

Oh, I have stumbled across some crazy stuff in my research of serial killers. The two that immediately pop into my mind are Ed Gein and Erno Soto or “Charlie Chopoff”. Gein exhumed bodies and would wear their bones and skins around his house. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was influenced by his case. And Chopoff got his name because he would remove the victim’s penis after he murdered them. Both, gross, I know! Every Friday I’ve been posting these facts on Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, and Twitter. Cruise on over and get caught up (warning: not for the faint of heart!)

If you could describe Lane in three words what would they be?

Dark. Intelligent. Focused.

What do you hope readers take away with them after reading Lane's story?

That we all have a dark side, and that is okay. It’s how we channel it that decides the type of person we become.

And lastly, could you tell us anything about what you're currently working on and when it'll be released?

My editor and I are putting the final touches on the second book in the series which will be out in 2015.

Shannon, it's been amazing having you here! Can't wait to read the second book in the series! Thanks for taking the time out to answer these questions. We hope you'll drop in to visit with us again sometime.

No, thank you!
